It's implied that there is a special, if not magical, bond between Daisaku and Giant Robo.
In the Final Episode, Daisaku finds the answer to his dying father's question: "Can happiness be achieved without sacrafice?" He rushes to a battle damaged Robo and is met by his father's spirit as he enters Robo's damaged eye!
